Schilke G1L Piccolo Trumpet in G Professional Model.
Model G1L 3 valve Piccolo.
Bore: Standard (.450) Open and Free blowing.
Overall Condition: Excellent. No dings, dents, or bends. Just a few scratches from performance and normal use.
Tone: Sweet, Crisp, Open and Free. The standard #5 bell on the Schilke G1L gives a sound that is much fuller, warmer and fatter than a standard piccolo sound, yet is easy to play in the upper range without sounding shrill, nasal or thin. Rolf Smedvig, Gerry Schwarz, myself and other artists have used the Schilke G1L in many performances and recordings where you want these ease of a piccolo but desire the fuller tone of a lower trumpet.
It is an especially good trumpet for the music of Handel.
The G1L is normally equipped with both the standard #5 "G" bell and slides and the #5 "F" bell and corresponding slides. This horn came to me without the "F" bell or slides however, these can be ordered separately and take about a 3 week window of manufacturing time. I spoke with Phil at Schilke Music and the extra bell and corresponding F slides are available and will be custom built and fitted to this horn for ($1290) should the new owner want to use the horn in "F".
Also available for less is the #8 Beryllium Brass piccolo bell in "G" ($695) (which is the same bell used on the P5-4), the #7 bell in "G" ($695) which is sized in between the #8 and #5 bells, and the #2 "E" bell ($695) which- when used in conjunction with the ($595) "F" slides-gives you the perfect horn for the Hummel Concerto as well as many operatic and Baroque works. The #2 "E" bell has that in between sound that is lighter than a "C" or "D" trumpet, yet bigger and fuller than a piccolo sound.
This is a specialty horn for the consummate and discriminating professional who wants a highly versatile high trumpet with a broad palette of available keys and tone colors. They very seldom come up for sale used as Schilke does not make very many, and owners seldom give them up once they are able to acquire one. The new owner can decide to add additional bells and slides as suit his playing needs over time. That's how I bought my G1L. Later, I added the #2 "E" bell, and the #8 "G" bell as well as a first slide ring and HD pads to tweak the intonation to perfection.
